Terms and Conditions
The Terms and Conditions listed on this statement govern the Service Agreement for Residence Telephone Services. All residents who desire telephone service must accept the Residence Telephone Services Service Agreement and Terms and Conditions. By accepting, you are indicating you have read and agree to abide by the Service Agreement, and failure to abide by these Terms and Conditions may result in suspension of your telephone services. Residence Telephone Services reserves the right to close an account at any time.
All charges for residents' telephone services and services related to RTS will be billed through the Campus Accounts Receivable System (CARS). Telephone bills are due and payable on the due date indicated on your CARS billing statement. If payment is not received by the due date, delinquent accounts are subject to late charges and deactivation of the IAC and other auxiliary RTS services.
Each month you will have access to your telephone statement from the Residence Telephone Services web page. The statement will include the monthly service fee, the charges for all long distance calls placed with your Individual Authorization Card (IAC), your share of charges for additional services and/or lines assigned to your phone number and room, and all applicable taxes (surcharges assessed by the California Public Utilities Commission). If requested, a hard copy of your statement will also be available to be sent to your given address.
It is your responsibility to audit this statement for accuracy, and immediately contact RTS if there are any discrepancies.
Each resident is fully responsible for payment of any and all calls made using an assigned IAC.
Any resident whose individual account surpasses $150.00 for a monthly billing cycle will have that account flagged. The resident may be notified of this high amount via email, but ultimately is responsible for making timely payment to CARS. RTS reserves the right to suspend or disconnect services based on delinquent accounts.
Use of an IAC other than your own is considered fraudulent use of University services. Anyone misusing an IAC will have his/her IAC suspended and will be charged for the calls. Additionally, such misuse may be referred to the UC Police Department for possible further action.
It is not possible to assign responsibility to a specific individual for charges that result from dialing some "800" numbers. Therefore, all residents of the room with an active Residence Telephone Services account will be equally responsible for these charges.
Residents are responsible for all additional services/lines that are requested to their number/room. This includes the use of external long distance carriers (ie. 10-10-XXX numbers). These carriers often assign service set up fees to use their discounted services. This service fee will be assessed to all residents of the room to which the service has been requested. This charge will be divided among all room residents.
Residents must notify Residence Telephone Services in writing of a change in residence hall address, move off campus, or change in permanent or off-campus address. You must notify Residence Telephone Services in writing should you decide to discontinue any part of your telephone service. Failure to notify Residence Telephone Services of these changes will result in your being liable for telephone services charged to your account.
IACs will be cancelled once a year (end of May). For returning students, a new IAC will be issued through the same process.
Delinquent student debts may result in the following administrative actions: Suspension of IAC and other RTS services, blocking of future registration, denial of further access to University services, denial of requests for transmission of academic and financial records (transcripts), withholding the disbursement of financial aid checks, assignment of the account to a commercial collection agency, offsetting any refund due you by the University or the state (including tax refunds) and reporting the delinquency to credit bureaus.
