CNS Repair

CNS offers repair services on all voice line within UC Berkeley's residence halls. If you experiencing problems with your lines and/or features, please call 642-9053. We will determine the cause of the problem and correct it within two working days from the receipt of your call.

Please make sure you check the troubleshoot checklist before call CNS repair. When you contact repair, you will be issued a trouble ticket number and if necessary, CNS will dispatch a technician to your location within two working days. Once the problem has been resolved, our repair desk will call you to confirm and very resolution.

Troubleshoot Checklist

We have found that many repair calls are resolved by simple tests and adjustments you can perform yourself. If you are experiencing any of the problems listed below, we suggest you explore the following possible solutions before you call repair.

Problem:

Check for:

IAC NOT WORKING Set the switch on your telephone to tone instead of pulse. The switch is usually located on the bottom or side of your telephone instrument.

Please verify that you are using your IAC correctly by reviewing dialing instructions.

NO RING Is the ringer volume up? Is set plugged in? Is the receiver off the hook?
NO DIAL TONE Is the set plugged in? Replace telephone wire with another telephone wire to eliminate the possibility of a damaged telephone wire. Switch telephone instrument to eliminate the possibility of a damaged telephone instrument.
HUM ON LINE Is one of the dialing buttons stuck down or hung up? (Drag your fingers across the dial pad to release.)

If the above checklist does not resolve your problems, please call telephone repair at 642-9053. You can also call Residence Telephone Services at 643-7000 and we can contact telephone repair on your behalf.


When you call repair, please have the following information ready.

  • Name
  • Room Number and Residence Hall needing repair
  • Telephone number that is malfunctioning
  • Alternate contact person/number
  • Nature of problem

Many times, repairs can be corrected remotely. However, if necessary, a technician may be dispatched to your location. Please notify your Unit office of your telephone problems. If you are not available during the technician appointment, please make arrangements with Hall Staff to give the technicians access to your room.
